dmitry kustanovich
Dmitry Kustanovich was born in Minsk, Belarus, in 1970. He is primarily an oil painter working in impressionist style. His passion for art started at an early age, in his finest works he offers a subtle, albeit distinct impression of a figural form. His emphasis on the fleeting changes in the natural world is a central aspect of his oeuvre that captures the ephemerality of nature and preserves it within the picture plane; thus, the momentary perception is crystallized in the replication of the optical experience of it. The old masters have always been his greatest source of information and techniques, however his works have evolved through his own personal experience. In 2006 the artist moved to Saint-Petersburg and began to explore new themes and methods of painting. As a result, he painted a series of Saint-Petersburg's views. His pictures show the avenue in different day time and season. The strong central shape of the receding streets, flanked by rows of trees and impressive buildings, dictates the simple, powerful composition and perspective, given drama by the high viewpoint. Strong brushstrokes on the sky and roas help to draw the eye down this busy thoroughfare. Sketchily painted figures and cars, like blurred photos, add a bustling movement, although the effect of pearly winter sun diffused through mist makes this view calmer than some of the others. In many places, such on a road surface, a broad pointillism is used. Dmitry Kustanovich held his first art exhibit in 1995 in Minsk, Belarus. Since 1995 the artist has been participating in the exhibitions every year, among them the shows in Moscow, Paris, St.Petersburg. Today Dmitry continues his experimentations with the technique. His pictures are different, but all of them show that his heart is in exploring the changing light and weather effects found all around us – a major impressionist preoccupation.
